Because 8 is an even number, that means it is ultimately derived from the original even number, 2 (The Line).

The concept of SQUARING leads to 2 interacting with 2 (2x2), and that yields a 4-way interaction as shown in the middle (4= 2-D Plane). Note how the act of squaring induces the "hint" of eight in how the 4 elements interact.

Progressing from squared to cubed adds the 3rd dimension... Multiple 2-dimensional planes. (2 x 2 x 2).

The 8-Shaped Infinite Mobius Strip.
This is a famous work of the artist M.C. Escher (1898-1972) that depicts the Mobius strip in all its glory of an infinitely regenerative curve. If you follow the path of the ants, you will see that an ant can continually crawl over both the top and bottom surfaces of the strip without ever "switching sides".
Above is a drawing of a Mobius strip. It is a normal strip of paper or ribbon, formed into a loop, but with a twist ...literally! Before you form the loop, you twist one end half-way around, then complete the loop.
